And to learn more about my journey to get to that point, read on...

As the home solar market rapidly expands, the risk of ending up with a subpar ("cowboy") installer is very real. New companies are entering the market every week, some with little experience and others purely with the intention of scamming customers before disappearing without trace.

While my YouTube videos hopefully provide a solid foundation for those interested in getting solar to approach potential installers with confidence, I now want to take things a step further—to help people connect with quality professionals with a 4-step plan:

1. Release a "Choosing a Good Installer" YouTube video

I’m currently working on a new video that will guide viewers in determining the key attributes of a good installer through a clear set of criteria. This video is expected to be released within the next week or two.

2. Collate Installation/Installer Experiences

For those who are happy to share their solar installation experiences, I’m developing an online form on the Gary Does Solar website where YouTube viewers can do just that. This feedback will be enormously valuable for the next step and I'll post about the form as soon as it's ready.

3. Build an Installer Directory

I aim to develop an online solar installer directory—an evolving list of trusted installers who meet the criteria laid out in my video above, but more than that, ones that I would be personally happy to contract with for my solar installation. This directory aims to be a resource where people can search for a quality installer serving their location, and after providing some details, request a quotation.

4. Collaborate with Solar Installers to Join the Directory

Once the directory is in place, I’ll be reaching out to installers who meet the criteria outlined above to discuss joining this directory.

For the time being, this initiative will be focused on the UK market, but if it proves successful, I’m keen to explore expanding it to other countries.
